## Periods of play

A contest is **divided into two 45-minute** **halves**, which can only be reduced if the referee and both teams agree before the start of the match and it is in conformity with competition rules.

## Half-time interval

At **half-time, players are entitled to a 15-minute break; at half-time in extra time, they are entitled to a one-minute drink break.** The duration of the **half-time gap** must be specified in the **competition rules,** and it can only be changed with **the referee's consent.**

## Allowance for time lost

**The referee makes an allowance in each half for all playing time missed in that half due to injury.**

- **medical stops allowed by competition rules, such as 'drinks' breaks (no more than one minute) and 'cooling' stops (ninety seconds to three minutes)**

If a **penalty kick** is required**,** the **half is extended** until the penalty kick is completed**.**

## Abandoned match

An abandoned match is **replayed** unless the **competition rules or organizers** determine otherwise.
