Rajasthan lies to the **northwestern** side of the country. It is the **largest state of India** in terms of **area 342,329 sq km (132,139 sq mi)**. Rajasthan comprises of the **“Great Indian Desert”** which is known as the **Thar Desert**. It is also known as **“Rajasthan Desert”**. Rajasthan shares its borders with the **Pakistani provinces of Punjab** to the northwest and **Sindh** to the west along the **Sutlej-Indus river valley**. Rajasthan also shares its borders with **Haryana** and **Uttar Pradesh** to the northeast, **Punjab** to the north, **Gujarat** to the southwest and **Madhya Pradesh** to the southeast. The **capital** of Rajasthan is **Jaipur** which is the **largest city** of the state. There is a total of **33** districts in the state. **Vasundhara Raje** from **Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP)** is the **Chief Minister** of the state. Rajasthan is of a **unicameral legislature** with **200** seats and **25** Parliamentary constituencies. **Kalyan Singh** is the **Governor** of the state. The total **population** of the state according to **2011 census** is **68,548,437**. **Rajasthani** is being spoken in the state however **Hindi** is the official language which is also widely spoken by the citizens of the State.

Punjab lies to the **northern** part of India. Punjab shares its borders with the Indian states of **Jammu and Kashmir** to the north, **Himachal Pradesh** to the east, **Haryana** to the southeast, **Rajasthan** to the southwest and the **Pakistan province of Punjab** to the west. Punjab covers an **area** of **50,362 sq km (19445 sq mi)**. The **capital** of Punjab is **Chandigarh** which is a **Union Territory** and also the **capital of Haryana**. There are **22** districts in Punjab with **Ludhiana** being the **largest city**. **Captain Amarinder Singh** from Indian National Congress (INC) is the **Chief Minister** of the state. Punjab is a **unicameral legislature** with **117** seats and **13** Parliamentary constituencies. **V P Singh Badnore** is the **Governor** of the state. The total population of the state as per the 2011 census is **27,704,236**. **Punjabi** is being spoken by the inhabitants of the state.
