## What is PUNJABI QISSA?

A [Punjabi Qissa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punjabi_Qisse) is a **storytelling culture** in the Punjabi language that originated in South Asia with the merging of locals and refugees from the Arabian Peninsula and modern-day Iran. **Waris Shah** was a **Chishti Sufi poet** from Punjab who significantly contributed to Punjabi literature. \
The Punjabi language contains a **huge body of qisse literature**, the most of which are about **romance, desire, rejection, struggle, societal ideals, and the revolution** of the ordinary person against a larger network. **Loyalty, devotion, respect, and qaul** (verbal agreement or promise) are prized in Punjabi culture, most of the tales in the qisse are built around these values. Qisse is credited for inspiriting Punjabi folk songs and adding richness and depth to its performance. These customs were handed down down the centuries in writing or orally, and they were frequently repeated, recounted to kids as fairytales, or played artistically as folk music. \
If done, each qissa has its own set of prerequisites. A person who can perform or memorize one may or not be able to communicate other. The **melodic tones of the harmonic serie**s, as well as correct pauses, might leave a singer gasping for air and unable to proceed. The majority of the rhythms employed in current Punjabi [music](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/30860/which-are-the-most-emotional-songs-of-bollywood) (sometimes mislabeled as Bhangra) come from the qissa heritage and lectures of the past.
