According to the 2008 Census of India, there are over **31,144,095 native** **Punjabi speakers in Pakistan** and over **76,335,300 native** **Punjabi speakers in India**, according to a 2008 estimate. If they're considered an ethnic group, they're one of the world's largest. They are the second-largest ethnic group in South Asia, behind the Bengalis. Punjabi and its accompanying dialects are the major languages of the Punjabi people, and they change according to the part of Punjab the speaker hails from; there are noticeable distinctions in the Lahnda languages spoken in Pakistani Punjab. Despite the lack of official support for Punjabi in Pakistan, the great majority of people still speak it.
