**Punjabi** is the most frequently spoken language in Pakistan and the **seventh most widely spoken language in India**. According to the 2008 Census of India, there are over **31,144,095 native** **Punjabi speakers in Pakistan** and over **76,335,300 native** **Punjabi speakers in India**, according to a 2008 estimate. Punjabi is also spoken as a regional language in a lot of different countries where Punjabis have emigrated in massive quantities, such as the **United Kingdom and Canada**, where Punjabi has now exceeded **Chinese and French as the 4th most spoken language**, thanks to a flood of foreigners from Pakistan and India. \

Punjabi is spoken by an estimated **102 million [people](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2295/more-people-need-to-monitor-this-crucial-metric-for-heart-health) worldwide**. If they're considered an ethnic group, they're one of the world's largest. They are the second-largest ethnic group in South Asia, behind the Bengalis. Punjabi and its accompanying dialects are the major languages of the Punjabi people, and they change according to the part of Punjab the speaker hails from; there are noticeable distinctions in the Lahnda languages spoken in Pakistani Punjab. Despite the lack of official support for Punjabi in Pakistan, the great majority of people still speak it. English is occasionally spoken, while older folks who were up in undivided Punjab may be able to communicate in Urdu.
