The **Ministry of Coal** is a government ministry in India with its headquarters in [New Delhi](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/93045/when-will-start-delhi-metro-after-lockdown). **Cabinet Minister Pralhad Joshi** is in charge of the portfolio. Through the government-owned enterprise's Coal India Limited and its subsidiaries, and also Neyveli Lignite Corporation, the Ministry of Coal is responsible for the **discovery of coal** and **lignite deposits** in [India](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/94657/what-are-the-types-of-civil-suits-in-india-against-money), and the manufacture, distribution, transport, and price of coal.

The Ministry of Coal also handles the Union Government's **49 percent ownership** interest in Singareni Collieries Company, a public service initiative that is a joint project with the Government of Telangana, with the State Government of Telangana (51 percent) and the [Government of India](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/94237/which-form-of-the-government-has-division-of-powers-and-independent-judiciary-as-the-important-characteristics) each holding a 49 percent stake.
