The Tuirial dam is situated in the state of **Mizoram**. It is an earthfill and gravity dam. The main purpose of the dam is **hydroelectric power production**. It is a central sector project, which is built at a cost of **?1302 crores**. The project was being executed by **North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO)** under the **union ministry of power** until the project was halted by **Tuirial Crop Corporation Claimant Association** in the year **2004**. Tuirial dam is the **second** largest earthen dam and the **largest** dam in the country. This dam produces **250 million** units of electrical energy every year.
