**Jai Ram Thakur (born on 6th January 1965)** is the current **Chief Minister** of **Himachal Pradesh**. Jai Ram Thakur belongs to the **Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)** and is the **6th** Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. He assumed office on **27th December 2017**. He was chosen as the Chief Minister after the defeat of the Chief Ministerial candidate from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), **Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal** in the assembly elections held in November 2017. Mr Jai Ram Thakur succeeded **Mr Virbhadra Singh** from the **Indian National Congress (INC)** party as the Chief Minister of the state.

The official language of the state is **Hindi** with **English** being the additional official language.
