**WikiLeaks** founder **Julian Assange** has been granted **Ecuadorian** citizenship on **12th December 2017**.

Julian Assange was born on **3rd July 1971** as **Julian Paul Hawkins**. He was born in **Townsville, Queensland, Australia**. Julian Assange is an **Australian** computer programmer. He was the **founder** of WikiLeaks. He founded WikiLeaks in the year **2006**. WikiLeaks came into limelight in the year **2010** when it published a series of leaks provided by **Chelsea Manning**. The leaks provided by Chelsea Manning included the video of **CableGate (November 2010), Collateral Murder video (April 2010)**, the **Afghanistan war logs (July 2010)** and the **Iraq war logs (October 2010)**. Post the publication of these leaks, the **United States** **Government** launched a criminal investigation into WikiLeaks.

**Sweden** issued an international arrest warrant for WikiLeaks **Director and editor-in-chief**, Julian Assange. Julian Assange has remained in the **Embassy of Ecuador in London, England (by right of asylum)** since then.
