**Gurcharan Singh Kalkat**, the former agricultural commissioner of India and a recognized agricultural scientist who recently was demised on **27th of January 2018** at the **age of 92** during his suffering from a terse malady.

He was **conceived on 17th of June 1926** and was the **Founder Chairman of the Punjab State Farmers Commission**, he was recognized for his contributions to **India’s Green Revolution**. He was honored with the **Padma Bhushan** and **Padma Shree Award** in **2007** and **1981** respectively.
