The principle on which the Swadeshi movement was based was to use Indian made products and promote the message of swadeshi. In fact, **L M Bhole** classified the Swadeshi movement into five phases with the first phase starting from **1850** and continuing till **1904**. Known as the **First Swadeshi Movement**, the movement was developed by leaders **Bal Gangadhar Tilak, G. V. The boycott movement lasted till **1911**. The movement was initiated by **Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bipin Chandra Pal, V.O. Chidambaram Pillai, Babu Genu** and **Aurobindo Ghosh**. The **aim** of the boycott movement was to boycott all the goods and products of the British origin. One of the famous examples was the burning of foreign clothes (western clothes). The aim was to use Indian products instead of the foreign products and to encourage the masses to use products that were **made in India**.
