**Jivatram Bhagwandas Kripalani (JB Kripalani)** was the president of the Indian National Congress during the time of Indian Independence.

JB Kripalani was born on **11th November 1888** at **Hyderabad, Bombay Presidency, British India**. He received his education from **Fergusson College** in **Pune**. JB Kripalani was a Gandhian socialist and he joined the Indian freedom struggle after **Mahatma Gandhi’s** return from **South Africa**. In the early **1920s**, JB Kripalani was involved with the **Non-Cooperation Movement**. He was an ardent follower of Mahatma Gandhi and grew very close to him. JB Kripalani worked in the ashram of Mahatma Gandhi in **Gujarat** on account of social reform and education. Before becoming a part of the Non-Cooperation Movement, JB Kripalani worked in the **Griers Bhumihar Brahmin College (now L.S. College) Muzaffarpur, Bihar** from **1912** to **1917** as a lecturer of **English** and **History**. In the year **1928 – 1929**, JB Kripalani joined the **All India Congress Committee** and later became its general secretary.

JB Kripalani was part of the **Salt Satyagraha** and the **Quit India Movement**. JB Kripalani served in the **interim government of India** as well as in the **Constituent Assembly of India** in **1946 – 1947**. In the year **1950**, JB Kripalani left Indian National Congress and founded the **Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party**. The party later merged with the **Socialist Party of India** and formed the **Praja Socialist Party**. JB Kripalani was elected to the **Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Indian Parliament)** or the **Assembly of People** in the year **1952, 1957, 1963** and **1967** as a member of the Praja Socialist Party. JB Kripalani was the husband of **Sucheta Kripalani** the **first female** and the **4th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh** serving from **2nd October 1963 to 13th arch 1967**. JB Kripalani passed away on **19th March 1982** at the age of **93** in **Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India**.
