**Lord Wavell** was the **Viceroy and Governor-General of India** from **1st October 1943 to 21st February 1947**. Lord Wavell was a **senior officer** of the **British Army** and served in the **Second Boer War, the Bazar Valley Campaign** and **the Great War** where he was wounded in the **Second Battle of Ypres**. Lord Wavell was the **Commander-in-Chief** of the **Middle East** in the **Second World War**. He led the British forces to victory in **western Egypt** and **eastern Libya** during **Operation Compass** in **December 1940**. Under the leadership of Lord Wavell, the British forces defeated the **Italians** in western Egypt. In **April 1941** the British forces under Lord Wavell were defeated by the **German Army** in the **Western Desert**. Lord Wavell was also part of the **North African Campaign** and the **Pacific War**. Lord Wavell expressed that India would become a running sore after the war and will sap the strength of the British Empire.

Born on **5th May 1883** in **Colchester, Essex, England** as **Archibald Percival Wavell**, Lord Wavell was the **Field Marshal** of the **British Army**. He was also the **1st Earl Wavell** and was the **member** of the **House of Lords** from **28th July 1943 to 24th May 1950**. Lord Wavell served as the **Commander-in-Chief** in **India** from **July 1941** to **June 1943**. Lord Wavell served in the **British Army** from **1901** to **1943**. Lord Wavell served in the **unit** of **Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment)**. Lord Wavell was also part of the **First World War**. Since Lord Wavell was at the rank of Field Marshal, he had commanded several regiments. Lord Wavell had the **commands** of **American-British-Dutch-Australian Command**. Lord Wavell was also the head of the **Middle East Command, Southern Command** and **GHQ India**. Lord Wavell also had the commands of **British Troops Palestine** and **Trans-Jordan, 2nd Division** and the **6th Infantry Command**. Lord Wavell retired from service in **February 1947**. Lord Wavell died at the age of **67** on **24th May 1950** in **Westminster, London, England**.
