Lord Wavell was a **senior officer** of the **British Army** and served in the **Second Boer War, the Bazar Valley Campaign** and **the Great War** where he was wounded in the **Second Battle of Ypres**. Lord Wavell was the **Commander-in-Chief** of the **Middle East** in the **Second World War**. He led the British forces to victory in **western Egypt** and **eastern Libya** during **Operation Compass** in **December 1940**. Under the leadership of Lord Wavell, the British forces defeated the **Italians** in western Egypt. In **April 1941** the British forces under Lord Wavell were defeated by the **German Army** in the **Western Desert**.
