**There are many names in the list of Indian President who have never been vice president of India**. As our Indian constitution contains wide information about eligibility criterion of **president of India in Part 5, chapter 1 ( The Executive ) and article (52-62) has nowhere stated that a man needs to be vice president of India before holding the office of president**. President must just posses a eligibility to be elected as a member of parliament. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first president of India. Article 53 of the Constitution of India says that the President can exercise his or her powers directly or by subordinate authority, with few exceptions, all of the executive authority vested in the President are, in practice, exercised by the Council of Ministers (CoM).

However, a few presidents were earlier vice president too. For example, **the second president Dr. S Radhakrishnan was first vice president of India.** Similarly, there were few more who were vice president earlier. There is also no precondition for the selection of vice president of India. **Article 63 of Indian Constitution states about the post of vice president of India. But he must possess all criterion to as a member of Rajya Sabha. The first vice president of India was Dr. Radhakrishnan.**
