The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was established in 2001. Its objectives include resolving border disputes, fighting terrorism, enhancing regional security, and countering America's growing influence in Central Asia. China hosted the SCO summit in 2018. It was held at Qingdao, China,

China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, and Pakistan. **Why is SCO important?** - It is seen as an organization countering NATO. - Enhances security cooperation between member states - Dealing with terrorism, especially IS helps to deal with terrorists - Increase economic cooperation in the region **Challenges before SCO** India opposes China's ambitious 'One Belt One Road' (OBOR) project. The traditional sharp relationship between India and Pakistan is also a big challenge for SCO as both countries are members of this organization. Apart from this, the dispute between Russia and China over Ukraine is also one of the challenges facing the SCO. \
