The **2016 Summer Olympics** was commonly known as **Rio 2016**. The games officially known as the **Games of the XXXI Olympiad** was held from **5th August 2016 to 21st August 2016** in **Rio de Janeiro, Brazil**. This was the **first** Olympic Games ever to be held in **South America**. The **motto** of the games was **“a new world”**. **11544** athletes from **207** nations participated in this mega prestigious sporting event. The athletes competed in **306** events held across **28** different sports. The games were declared open by the **acting president of Brazil, Michel Temer** who is currently the **Vice President** of the country. The **2024 Summer Olympics** will be held in **Paris, France.**
