**“Sukumar Sen” was the first [Election Commissioner](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/39586/name-the-new-chief-election-commissioner-of-india-who-will-replace-shri-achal-kumar-joti) of India. He served on the post from March 21, 1950, to December 19, 1958.**

During his work tenure, the Election Commission organized two successful general elections of Independent India. He was a Civil Servant who worked not only for Independent India but also for British India. The Chief Election Commissioner gets the equal status and salary which is given to the Judges of the [Supreme Court of India](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/32904/in-which-year-supreme-court-of-india-came-in-to-force). Usually, the Chief Election Commissioner is a member of Indian [Civil Services](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/39499/under-which-act-civil-services-started-in-india) or from the Indian Administrative Services. A Chief Election Commissioner once appointed by the President then to remove the person from post requires a tedious procedure to follow. The two-thirds of Lok Sabha and [Rajya Sabha](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/44597/the-upper-house-of-indian-parliament-rajya-sabha-recently-passed-which-crucial-bill) member had to vote against him for improper conduct, then only he can be removed from the post of Chief Election Commissioner. The first Election Commissioner Sukumar Sen is **also the first Chief Election Commissioner of “Sudan”.** He completed his education from Presidency College, Kolkata, and later been to the University of London. In the University of London, he was awarded the Gold Medal in Mathematics.
