It works on the development and implementation of policy with national governments, regional institutions in conjunction with environmental non-governmental organizations (NGOs). United Nations Environment has also been active in funding and implementing environment related development projects. Recently in 2013, UN official called for urgent action to improve air quality in Asia-Pacific region. According to Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), “The ongoing problem of air pollution between Indonesia and Singapore is symptomatic of a much wider challenge for the countries of the region”.
