[**Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Mountbatten,_1st_Earl_Mountbatten_of_Burma) was a British royal family member, Royal Navy officer, and politician, the maternal uncle of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and Queen Elizabeth II's distant relative. During WWII, he served as Supreme Allied Commander, South East Asia Command. He served as the last Viceroy of [**India**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/94658/what-is-the-procedure-for-filing-a-declaratory-suit-at-a-civil-court-in-india) and the first Governor-General of the Dominion of India. \

Mountbatten was born in Windsor to the wealthy Battenberg family and attended the Royal Naval College, Osborne, before joining the Royal Navy in 1916. He served in the last stages of [**World War I**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/31937/what-was-india-s-role-in-world-war-1) and temporarily entered Christ's College, Cambridge, following the battle. Mountbatten wanted to continue his professional service all through the interwar period, concentrating on naval ties.
