India was represented at the Olympics in 1900 by a single athlete, Norma Pritchard, who won two silver medals for India. The first national Olympic squad sent by India in 1920 participated in the Summer Olympics. After that, India participated in many Winter Olympics until 1964.

By then, India had won 28 Olympic medals including Sindhu and Sakshi medals.

**Poverty** India has a very poor population. India is a very poor country in terms of income per capita. Sports has never been a concern of the government. There is no culture of sports in India. In India, sports is the last option for financial support for parents.

**Poor Diet** Most Indians drink water that contains synthetic sprays and pesticides. Mostly they drink polluted water and the air is also not fresh in many areas due to which the health growth and physical development of the children is not possible.

**Apart from cricket**, not much importance is given to other games. Kabaddi players are hardly recognized as they have brought gold medals for India.

**Corruption** plagues all major Indian sports, including cricket, hockey, weightlifting, and athletics.

**There were no flower garlands, no red carpet, no trumpets, no crowds, nothing to greet these victorious athletes.**
