Generally, Mono for Android is a **runtime and development tools** that provide authority .NET developers to influence their knowledge of Visual Studio and C# to develop any applications for Android devices.

- **For Runtime:** The Mono for Android runtime is an application that runs on the Linux kernel operating system in the Android stack. It describe the Mono byte code and handles communication with the Dalvik runtime for calls to native Android APIs.
- **Uses in Development stack:** Mono for Android is also a development stack, to providing the different types of tools to create necessary application for Android devices.

Mono for android allows you to developing android applications using Mono. There is an **addin** **for MonoDevelop** that allows building Mono for Android app with MonoDevelop on macOS, Linux and Windows.\

Generally, installing & updating the addin depends on many platform. The addin currently reruires MonoDevelop 2.6 beta 1. **\****For Windows** For installing the addin, open the Addin Manager using the Tools->Add-in Manager menu, go to the Gallery tab, open the Mobile Development, and select the MonoAndroid development addin. Next, press the Installation button and follow the installation through, if the installation complete click on finish. \
