Rubin revealed in a 2013 speech in Tokyo that Android OS was originally meant to improve the operating systems of digital cameras, as reported by PC World. The company rises to the investors in 2004 that showed how Android, installed on a camera, would connect wirelessly to a PC. Then PC would connect to an **“Android Datacenter”**, where camera owners could store their photos online on a cloud server. In 2005, Android’s history was made when the original company was acquired by **Google**. Now Rubin and other founding members were continued to work with their new owners. Then the decision was made to use Linux as the basis for the Android OS, and that also meant that Android itself could be offered to third-party mobile phone manufacturers for free. Android is **open source** so anyone can access and develop anything on android. ![What is the history of Android?](https://answers.mindstick.com/questionanswer/b0b0ccd3-a74c-47b5-b949-2c7d3fdba992/images/b5040c18-d891-4858-a5d1-c8a4ce90eb2a.png)\
