A gutter in Microsoft Word is an extra space that is used to add spaces to side margin or top margin of a document that you plan to bind. To set gutter margins for bound documents, follow steps: Step 1. Open Microsoft Word document. Step 2. Click the 'Page Layout' tab. Step 3. Click the 'Margins' drop-down list and click 'Custom Margins'. (The 'Page Setup' dialog box appears.). Step 4. From the 'Gutter' spin box, select the appropriate size. Step 5. From the 'Gutter position' drop-down list, select the appropriate option. Step 6. Click 'OK'. \
