**India played** its one [day international](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/48249/who-captained-india-in-her-first-one-day-international) against England in 1974 at Headingley in Leeds. It was India’s first one day tour and also first **international tour** as well. On the debut match, India lost but the performance by our team was applaud-able. The match was of 55 over as in earlier times one-day matches use to be of 55 overs.

England captain **Michael Denness** won the toss and opted to field and **Ajit wadekar** was captain of our team. Indian team scored 265 runs countering to which England scored 266 won the match. Though England team won the match but performance from our players was above the **expectation.** As it was just a start and was just a first step.
