# What can ChatGPT agent mode do?

ChatGPT agent mode lets ChatGPT complete tasks for you, not just answer questions. It works in its own virtual computer, where it can browse websites, click buttons, fill in forms, run code, read files and create documents, carrying out a series of steps until the task is finished.

The difference from normal ChatGPT is action. Normal ChatGPT tells you how to do something. Agent mode attempts to do it. For example, instead of explaining how to compare hotels, it can visit booking sites, compare options for your dates and present a shortlist.

Examples of tasks people use it for:

1. Research and compile: "Find five co-working spaces in Noida with day passes under 500 rupees and make a comparison table."\
2. Shopping preparation: "Find a 1.5-ton inverter AC with a 5-star rating, compare prices on major sites and add the best option to my cart."\
3. Planning: "Plan a team dinner for 12 people near Connaught Place next Friday and find restaurants with group seating."\
4. Creating documents: "Research competitor pricing and make a slide deck summarising it."\
5. Working with connected apps: reading your calendar or email, if you have connected them, to prepare a meeting brief.

To use it, select agent mode from the tools menu in ChatGPT and describe your task clearly. You can watch what the agent is doing, step in at any time, take control of the browser or stop the task.

Important safety points:

The agent asks for your permission before important actions such as making purchases, sending emails or submitting forms. Read these confirmations carefully.\
It may ask you to log in to websites yourself. Never share passwords in the chat.\
Websites can contain hidden instructions designed to mislead AI agents, a risk called prompt injection. Use agent mode on trusted websites and review what it did.\
Be cautious about giving it access to sensitive accounts such as banking or email unless necessary.

It also has limits. Agent mode is slower than a person for many simple tasks, it can get stuck on complex websites, CAPTCHAs or pop-ups, and it can make mistakes, such as picking the wrong product or date. Always check the result before relying on it.

Availability and usage limits depend on your plan. As the technology improves, agents are likely to handle more of the repetitive online tasks people do every day, with humans staying in charge of key decisions.
