Used correctly, it saves time and helps you understand topics more deeply. Used carelessly, it can mislead you with wrong facts. Here is how to get the benefits safely. Understanding concepts. Ask AI to explain difficult topics in simple language, in English or Hindi. For example: "Explain the difference between the Finance Commission and the erstwhile Planning Commission, with examples relevant to the UPSC syllabus." Follow up until you truly understand. Practice questions. Ask for MCQs on a specific topic at the difficulty level of your exam, with explanations for each answer. You can also ask AI to quiz you one question at a time and tell you where your concepts are weak. Answer writing practice. For mains-style exams, write your own answer, then ask the AI to evaluate it for structure, content, examples and word limit, and suggest improvements. This gives you instant feedback when a mentor is not available. Revision. Turn long notes into short summaries, flashcards or mind-map outlines. Ask for "one-page revision notes" on a topic before the exam. Current affairs. Tools with web search, such as Perplexity, ChatGPT search or Gemini, can summarise recent developments. But always confirm with reliable sources such as PIB, official government websites and standard newspapers. Study planning. Share your exam date, syllabus and available hours, and ask for a realistic timetable with revision cycles. Language support. Translate study material between English and Hindi, or understand difficult English passages. Now the important caution. AI can give wrong facts with confidence, especially for dates, article numbers of the Constitution, schemes, statistics, appointments and recent events. In an exam where one wrong fact costs marks, this matters a lot. Follow these rules: 1. Use standard books and official sources as your foundation, and AI as a support.\ 2. Verify every fact you plan to memorise.\ 3. Be extra careful with recent information and numbers.\ 4. Do not depend on AI-generated question papers alone; practise previous year papers.
