# Can AI create images, and how do I do it?

Yes, AI can create images from a written description, and you do not need any design skills to do it. You describe the picture you want, and the AI generates it in seconds.

Many popular tools include image creation. ChatGPT can generate images directly in chat. Gemini has Google's image models built in. Grok can create images, and Microsoft Copilot and Designer offer image generation too. There are also specialised tools like Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, Ideogram and others. Most have free options with limits.

Here is how to get good results.

Describe the image clearly. Instead of "a picture of a festival," try "a family lighting diyas on the steps of an old house during Diwali at dusk, warm golden light, colourful rangoli in front, realistic photo style." Good descriptions usually include the subject, what is happening, the setting, the lighting or mood, and the style.

Choose a style. Say whether you want a realistic photo, a cartoon, a watercolour painting, a flat illustration, a 3D render, a poster or a logo-style design.

Mention the format. Ask for square for Instagram, vertical for stories or wide for a banner or YouTube thumbnail.

Refine by conversation. If the first result is close, ask for specific changes: "make the background less busy," "add more people," "change the colours to blue and white." Many tools can also edit an image you upload.

Keep text short. AI image tools have improved a lot with text, but long sentences inside images can still come out wrong. Use short titles and check spelling carefully, or add text later in a design app.

Common uses include social media posts, blog images, presentation visuals, greeting cards, product mockups, story illustrations for children and idea boards for interior design.

There are also important limits. Do not create images of real people in fake or misleading situations, explicit content, or images that copy a specific artist's work or a brand's logo and characters. Most tools block these, and creating deepfakes of real people can be harmful and illegal. If you use AI images commercially, check the tool's terms of use, and be honest when an image is AI-generated in situations where it matters, such as news or advertising.
