# Why Is Google Indexing a Page but Choosing a Different Canonical URL?

Google has indexed one of my pages, but the search result points to a different URL with very similar content. The page I wanted indexed is accessible and included in my sitemap, so I’m trying to understand what might be influencing Google’s choice.

When this happens, which signals are worth checking first: internal links, redirects, duplicate content, or the canonical tag itself? I’d also be interested in how people confirm whether the **Google-selected canonical URL** is temporary or likely to stick.
