# What Could Wake a Windows Laptop While Its Lid Is Closed?

My Windows laptop is sometimes warm and has lost a noticeable amount of battery by morning, even though I closed the lid before bed. It doesn’t happen every night, which makes it hard to pin down.

Could scheduled updates, a [connected mouse](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/108906/what-if-your-laptop-is-not-recognizing-a-connected-external-mouse-on-linux), or a network setting be waking it? I’d like to identify what actually woke the laptop before changing settings that might interfere with updates or normal sleep.
