# Why Do Mangoes Sometimes Ripen Unevenly After Harvest?

I bought a batch of mangoes that softened over several days, but some were ripe on one side and still firm near the stem. A couple also developed dark patches before the rest of the fruit seemed ready.

What affects **mango ripening after harvest**—is it mostly how the fruit was handled, or can variety and storage conditions make that much difference?
