# How Can I Tell If an EV’s Lower Range Is Battery Wear or Cold Weather?

My electric car’s estimated range has dropped, but the change showed up during colder weather and I don’t know whether to treat it as normal seasonal variation or a sign the battery is losing capacity.

What comparisons are actually useful for judging **electric vehicle range** over time? Should I look at the car’s displayed estimate, energy use over a repeatable route, charging data, or a battery-health report? I’d also like to know how much a few cold weeks can distort the picture before I book a diagnostic check.
