# Why Does Windows Show High Memory Use When Few Apps Are Open?

My Windows laptop has 16 GB of RAM, but Task Manager often shows memory use above 70% even when I only have a browser and a couple of small apps open. The Processes tab doesn’t seem to add up to that much.

Is this usually Windows using spare memory for caching, or could something be running in the background that isn’t obvious? I’m trying to understand which parts of **Windows memory usage** are normal before I start closing services or changing settings.
