# Can an eSIM Transfer Fail Even When Both Phones Support eSIM?

I’m upgrading to a newer phone and both models support eSIM, but I’ve heard that moving a number can still require help from the carrier. What can get in the way of an [eSIM transfer](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/117571/why-cant-i-transfer-my-esim-when-switching-to-a-new-phone) when the devices themselves are compatible?

I’d especially like to know whether the phone’s operating system, carrier account settings, or a regional model difference can affect carrier activation. If the transfer fails midway, is there a risk of losing service on the old phone before the new one is ready?
