# Can a USB-C Port Charge a Laptop but Still Fail to Send Video?

My laptop charges through its USB-C port, but connecting it to an [external monitor](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/108776/what-if-a-laptop-is-not-recognizing-external-monitors) through a [USB-C dock](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/117552/why-does-windows-limit-my-144-hz-monitor-to-60-hz-through-a-usb-c-dock) gives me no picture. The same monitor and dock work with another laptop.

Does charging through USB-C tell me anything about whether that port supports video output? I’m trying to narrow down whether this is a port capability issue, a cable or dock limitation, or a display setting before replacing anything.
