# How Does Perplexity Choose Which Sources to Cite When Pages Disagree?

When I ask Perplexity a question, it sometimes cites pages that appear to disagree, even when the topic seems fairly straightforward. I can open the sources, but I’m not sure what determines which claims make it into the answer or how the citations are weighed against one another.

Does Perplexity favor newer pages, sources with stronger reputations, or wording that matches the question more closely? I’m trying to understand how to check an answer when its cited sources give different figures or explanations.
