# What Can Make Ferritin Low Even When Hemoglobin Is Normal?

I recently saw a blood test where ferritin was below the lab’s reference range, but hemoglobin was still reported as normal. I had assumed those results would usually move together, so I’m unsure how to interpret the difference.

Can iron stores fall before anemia shows up in a complete blood count? I know results need to be discussed with a clinician, but I’d like to understand what questions are useful to ask about symptoms, diet, or possible causes before my appointment.
