# Why Does My EV’s Range Estimate Drop So Much on the Highway?

My electric car’s displayed range seems fairly reassuring around town, but it drops much faster during a long highway trip. I know the estimate changes as I drive, but the difference feels large enough that I’m not sure whether it reflects normal energy use or a problem with the car.

How much can highway speed, temperature, wind, or cabin heating shift an **electric vehicle range estimate**? I’d like to understand which conditions matter most, especially on **winter highway trips**, before I start treating the dashboard number as a reliable arrival prediction.
