# Why Does My Phone Get Hot During Wireless Charging?

My phone gets noticeably warmer on a [wireless charging](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/32417/does-wireless-charging-work-through-iphone-8-plus-7-plus-silicone-case-for-the-iphone-8-plus) pad than it does when I plug it in, even though both chargers seem to charge at a similar speed. The phone is warm rather than painfully hot, but I’m unsure what counts as normal.

Is that extra heat simply part of **wireless charging**, or can the case, pad placement, or background activity make a big difference? I’d like to know what other people have observed before assuming the battery or charger is faulty.
