# Why Do Android Phones Lose Security Updates Before the Hardware Wears Out?

My Android phone still runs well, but its manufacturer has stopped providing [security updates](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/116093/delhi-blast-live-updates-amit-shah-to-chair-high-level-security-review-meeting). I’m trying to understand why support can end while the battery, screen, and processor are still perfectly usable.
