# Why Do Google Search Console Impressions Rise While Clicks Fall?

I’m seeing more impressions in [Google Search Console](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/86456/what-google-search-console-insights-is-and-how-these-reports-can-help-you), but clicks are moving in the opposite direction. The pages haven’t changed much, so I’m trying to work out whether this points to weaker rankings or simply more visibility for searches that don’t bring visitors.

When you investigate a pattern like this, which reports or comparisons help distinguish a change in search demand from a change in how a result performs? I’m especially interested in how you read average position trends alongside query-level data.
