# Why Did Some Princely States Join India Later Than Others?

After independence in 1947, many princely states joined the new Indian Union, but the process did not happen everywhere at the same pace. Some rulers agreed quickly, while others became the subject of prolonged negotiations or conflict.

When comparing cases such as Hyderabad, Junagadh, and Travancore, which factors best explain the different timelines? I’m trying to understand how geography, public opinion, the ruler’s choices, and the political situation shaped **princely state integration** without treating every accession as the same story.
