# Do External Links Affect the Reach of Posts on X?

I’ve noticed that posts containing a link to an article or product page sometimes get less reach than similar posts without one. It’s hard to tell whether that’s an actual platform pattern or just differences in timing and engagement.

Has anyone compared link posts with link-free posts on X over a meaningful period? I’m especially curious whether placing the URL in a reply makes a measurable difference, or whether the topic and early engagement matter more.
