# Why Can Production Volume Rise While Overall Equipment Effectiveness Falls?

At our plant, output has increased this quarter, but the reported overall equipment effectiveness has slipped. I’m trying to understand how those two numbers can move in opposite directions when the machines are producing more units.

Could a change in product mix, shorter runs, or more minor stoppages affect the metric even if total production is up? How do manufacturing teams interpret OEE alongside output rather than treating it as a standalone score?
