# Why Can Parts That Meet Their Specifications Still Fit Poorly in Assembly?

In a manufactured assembly, each component can pass its own dimensional inspection and still be difficult to fit once several parts are put together. How does tolerance stack-up explain this, and how do engineers decide which dimensions need tighter control?

I’m interested in practical ways teams distinguish a genuine design issue from ordinary variation across production batches.
