# Why Can Fasting Glucose and A1C Suggest Different Blood Sugar Patterns?

How can someone have a fasting glucose result outside the expected range but an A1C that looks less concerning, or the reverse? Since one test is a single measurement and the other reflects blood sugar over a longer period, I’d like to understand what each one captures and why they might not line up.

What should someone ask their clinician when these results seem to tell different stories?
