# Does Claude Remember Uploaded Files Across New Chats?

I uploaded a reference document in one Claude conversation, then started a new chat and asked about the same material. The new chat seemed unfamiliar with it, even though I was using the same account.

Is that expected? I’m trying to understand the difference between a normal chat’s history, saved memory, and [Claude Projects](https://answers.mindstick.com/blog/428/how-to-work-with-existing-projects-using-claude-code). If a file needs to be available in later conversations, where should it be added?
