# Why Do Factories Use Statistical Process Control Instead of Inspecting Every Part?

In manufacturing, a defect in one component can create a costly problem downstream. So why do many production lines monitor samples and process trends instead of checking every single part?

I’m interested in the practical trade-off: how does **statistical process control** help a team spot a process drifting out of spec, and what kinds of defects or production environments make sample-based monitoring less reliable? It seems like the answer would depend a lot on the consequences of a missed defect.
