# How Should UPSC Aspirants Handle Conflicting Dates in History Sources?

While revising modern Indian history, I’ve found different books giving slightly different dates for the same event—especially when one source refers to a decision and another to its implementation. For [UPSC preparation](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/99669/what-is-the-first-step-in-upsc-civil-service-preparation), I’m not sure when a date needs to be memorized precisely and when the sequence of events matters more.

How do you resolve these conflicts without collecting multiple versions in your notes? Do you follow the standard textbook, check the original source, or keep a short note explaining why the dates differ?
