# Why Does My .NET App Run Locally but Fail After Deployment to IIS?

My .NET application runs normally on my development machine, but after I publish it to IIS, requests fail with a server error. The site itself loads, so I’m not sure whether the problem is the app configuration, the hosting setup, or something about the deployment.

For anyone who has debugged this, what would you check first in an **IIS deployment**? Are there particular logs or settings that usually reveal why an app works locally but not under the [IIS application pool](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/1073/application-pool-in-iis-7)?
