# Why Does a USB-C Monitor Charge My Laptop but Show No Picture?

I connected my laptop to an external monitor with a USB-C cable. The laptop starts charging, but the monitor says there is no signal. The same monitor works over HDMI, so I’m wondering whether the [USB-C port](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/117542/why-does-my-laptop-charge-through-one-usb-c-port-but-not-another), cable, or monitor connection is the issue.
