# Why Does a Banana Ripen Unevenly Even in the Same Bunch?

Sometimes bananas in one bunch turn yellow at different rates, or a single banana develops brown patches on one side while the rest stays green. Is that mostly down to where each fruit sat during transport, or can storage at home make the difference?

I’ve heard that nearby fruit and warm spots affect ripening, but I’m not sure how much those factors matter compared with bruising or the banana’s starting maturity. What conditions have you found make bananas ripen more evenly?
